1. Install Antivirus software and it updated daily:
Any machine connected t the internet is vulnerable to viruses and other threats including malware, Trojan attacks etc. There are plenty of anti-virus software packages available in the market. An antivirus software isn't a completely foolproof option but it can identifies viruses.Update your antivirus software regularly.
2.Enable Firewall:
Install firewall security. A firewall acts a barrier between your computer and network. Firewall protects your computer by stopping threats from entering the system and spreading between devices. If your computer ports are open, anything coming into them could be processed. Firewall acts as simple defence to close all ports. The firewall will open the ports only to trusted applications and external devices on an as needed.
Windows includes the internet connection firewall which you can turn on by following method.
- Select System and Security on Control Panel then windows firewall
- Inside the windows firewall window, on the left hand side click on Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
- Select Turn on Windows Firewall
- Click OK.
3. Lock your device and software with Password:
Most web-connected software that you install on your system requires login credentials.The most important thing here is not use the same password across all applications. This makes it far too easy for someone to hack into all of your accounts and possibly steal your identity. Avoid using password saving features, such as Microsoft's auto complete future.
Physical lock is another option.Use a password protected screen saver provided by windows if you leave your computer unattended even for a few minutes.
4.Use a VPN:
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is an excellent way to set up your security, especially when browsing online. VPN supports your internet traffic is encrypted and tunneled through an intermediary through an intermediate server in a separate location. This makes your IP, replacing it with a different one, so that your ISP( Internet Service Provider) can no longer monitor your activity.
5. Adjust Your Browser Settings:
Most browsers have options that enable the level of privacy and security while you browse. This can help lower the risk of malware infections reaching your computer. Chrome, Firefox all provide detailed instructions to help browser settings.
6. Clear your Cache:
Never underestimate how much your browser's cache knows about you. Saved cookies, saved searches etc. Delete browser cookies and clear your browser history on a regular basis.
7. Remove Suspicious E-mail :
There are a numerous topics to attract users to open malicious attachments, it causes best way to spread viruses. However users still need to take steps to avoid opening e-mails from unknown sources. You are recommended to simply delete it without reading it.
8. Use The Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool:

9. Keep your Software up to Date:
All computer operating systems receive frequent updates. These updates also include security measures that keep our computers safe from latest batch of Viruses and malware . We need to ensure that updates are notified or set to download and install automatically.
10. Backup your Data Regularly:
Keep a backup copy of all your important files and data on a separate storage device. If your computer crashes , at least the loss of data might only be the amount since the last backup.
