SD(Solid State Digital) Cards can hold ten hundreds and eleven thousands of gigabytes of data.SD cards are amazing bits of technology. As SD Cards are removable media, they are more prone to correction which may happen due to unsafe removal of the card, bad sectors, malware or virus infection etc.

Here are some common signs that your SD cards has been corrupted.
- You can see files such as photos,but when you open them they are corrupted
- The SD cards shows up as empty, even though you know there are files there.
- Read/write issues: You can see the files on the card, but can't read/write to them.
- Copying from the card shows an impossible completion time, usually ending in copy failure.
- While connecting the SD card to a device, you may encounter errors such as SD card is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
Ways to Fix Corrupted SD Card
1. Use a Disk Checker Tool :
Simply using the disk checker tool in your operating system can recover data from a corrupted SD card. In Windows 10

- Open Windows Explorer
- Right- Click on the drive in question
- Click in Properties
- Select Tool
- Click on "Check"
- Follow the instruction
If your actual data is not damaged and the SD card is physically fine, the disk checker will rebuild its logical structure and the disk should be usable again.If the card is not working properly, the disk checker will let you know.
2.Use Data Recovery Software:
If you are unable to access your files stored on SD card use a data recovery tool.
These software packages go around the limitations of the average drive management standards. Sometimes you can recover corrupted data fully this way or at least your data partially.
A great general purpose data recovery such as Recuva that has saved our own data many times in the past.
3. Use Diskpart in CMD Command:
If you are getting SD card "read only" error message and you have also checked the card is not write-protected, then try to fix the error by using diskpart utility in CMD command.Follow the below steps.
- Connect SD card to Windows PC.
- Click start> Run.Enter cmd.
- Type diskpart and press enter.
- Type list volume.All connected drives are listed.
- Type select volume 1. 1 represents the letter of your SD card drive.
- Type attributes disk clear read only and hit enter.
Restart your PC and again connect your SD card.The problem should be fixed now.
4. Use Windows Troubleshooter to fix corrupted SD Card:
Windows Troubleshooter feature often find problems and fixes issues related to hardware and drivers.Follow the steps.
- Connect your SD card to PC
- Select and follows Start>settings>update&security>Troubleshoot
- Select Hardware and Devices and click Run the troubleshooter.
5. Use SD Card repair solution provided by manufacturer:
Some SD cards manufactures such as Sandisk,Samsung,Kingston etc also provide solutions to repair corrupt storage media. You can use their tools to fix corrupt SD cards and stored photos, videos etc. Visit the manufacture's website to download the tool.
Tips to Protect Your SD Card
- Don't use the the problem SD card, until the lost files are recovered.
- Never remove SD card while saving or viewing its photos or videos etc.
- Don't use the same SD card in multiple devices. This required to keep the card free from virus infection.
- Protect SD cards from extreme temperatures, dirt and moisture.
- Us a good quality card reader for connecting your SD card to system.
